Today was good and hard for different reasons. I got my math homework all finished (what's due tomorrow anyway) and chemistry is done for tonight (tomorrow in lab is going to be heck) and then financial literacy is just plain dull. But at least I don't have to worry about it, just dread it. Which is okay.
Journalism is going well, I'm not writing any articles currently, just revising. But if you read this blog and you see this title, "Willy Wonka Wants You Back at the Factory", and you want to read my article then, you know, contact me. Maybe talk to me with your mind, that kind of thing, and I'll send it to you. Or read it out loud. Story time!
We had a band concert today. And I have to get over it, so I'll not write about it for another couple paragraphs.
Seminary was good today, poor Sis. D was sick, and we missed her but Bro. B is good too. English, I FINALLY GOT INVITED TO THE CLASS BLOG! I feel so tip-top. The tippity-top of the mountain. I got an invitation. . . go me! Now I must comment on it. About the Scarlet Letter, which frankly, whooshes over my brain. Fast.
Good stuff: end of the term! (which is also bad. . . but it will be finished!!!)
Saturday will be awesome. Done.
And now, what you've been waiting for (obviously since I haven't told you about it yet) . . .the BAND CONCERT.
Never have so many things gone wrong for me in a band concert. Never have I played less music for a band concert. Never have I had a glow-in-the-dark green trident at a band concert. Never have I had as much fun in a band concert.
I played in 2 songs. "Paris Sketches" and "Voodoo"
In "Paris Sketches" Percussion has played through movement 1 maybe 3 times. And now we're performing, today, in front of everyone. Whatever. I played fine. But about 15 measures into the song Dani comes up to me, "Do you know where my music is?" I had no idea. Not a clue. Nothing to go on. The song has started. Dani doesn't have her music which is vital if one is actually to play. So in between notes on the chimes I point at music stands, asking if she's checked them, she has. Near the end of the song I have 8 measures of rests before I switch to crash cymbal so during those 8 measures I run over and start looking through piles. I'm counting measures so when I get to 6 I run back and start banging the cymbals together to make, oh-so pretty music, I finish my part of movement 1 and transfer my music to the xylophone and glockenspiel (it's a real word/instrument. . . btw I have my very own glockenspiel. In my house.) When I arrive at the mallet area my eyes are drawn to a pile of music conveniently placed right on top of the marimba. Guess what music is on top - Dani's. So I rush it over to her, aware that Mr. S is kinda glaring at me. When I am back at my instrument I look up, he asks if we're ready to start (not out loud! That would be unprofessional. We use this secret language that you have to know if you want to succeed in band. . . I know it.) I give him a thumbs up and we continue on with the 2nd movement which went lovely.
Voodoo. Voodoo is to be played in the absolute darkness, memorized. We did not have it memorized. So we were allowed glow sticks. I had a trident. And it was awesome. Unfortunately the trident was not awesome because it helped me see very well. No, it was a trident therefore, its definition is awesome. Both Andie and I played timpani on this piece. She also plays the bell cymbal (I think that's what it was) which makes a noise like the wind blowing through the trees. Well, there's this part where I play the timpani 3+4 , 1+ 2 , 3 + 4 , 1e+ 2+ 3+ 4+ (with a crescendo) and then Andie hits the bell cymbal while the band is quiet. Well we're a measure away before I start playing (IT'S PITCH BLACK) and Andie says, "Where's the mallet?" Referring, of course, to the rubber mallet you hit the bell cymbal with. I had no idea and she was supposed to play in 3 measures. Mr S was conducting with a glow stick of his own (not a trident. . . ha on him) and he was leading up to it 3+ 4, 1+ 2, 3+4 , and he cues the 1e+ 2+ 3+ 4+ but Andie didn't have the mallet so I played another 1+ 2. I think Mr S was shocked, but he just held his hands out, telling the band not to play. Gratefully during that last 1+ 2 Andie whispered, "I found it!" and I was able to, immediately after, play the 1e+ 2+ 3+ 4+ as loudly as I could. So it turned out okay. If Andie hadn't found the mallet I don't know what I would have done. I probably would have resorted to making up my own WaaahhOOOaaahhhhhhooooOOOaAAaaaA noise. Which would have been awful. Anyway, this was a fun night.
On a side note I carved the coolest pumpkin ever yesterday. It kinda got messed up from the cold today but I have a picture!
Cheerio
